Albert Edward ALDIS New Zealand 1870 - 1921 Albert Aldis was born in Kentish Town, London and came to Auckland in 1882 when his father W. Steadman Aldis took a position as Professor of Mathematics at Auckland University College. Aldis exhibited landscapes in oil with the Auckland Society of Arts in 1887 and 1888 and is listed, along with his brother, also A. Aldis as an Auckland artist in the 1890-91 Wise’s. His parents returned to England in 1897 but Albert travelled to Sydney, where he later settled. He died in Manly and his work is represented in the Auckland City Art Gallery and the Hocken Library. |
