Henry RYLAND, 1856-1924 Henry Ryland was both a talented painter in oils and watercolours and a decorator and designer. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1890 and with the New Watercolour Society, Grovesnor Gallery and the New Gallery. His style and subjects reflect the contemporary trends as seen in the paintings of fellow artists Alma-Tadema (1836-1912) and J. Godward (1861-1922). Ryland's favourite subjects were young woman draped in classical costume posed on marble terraces. |
