| Anne Estelle Rice was married to the critic Raymond Drey, who wrote the introduction to the catalogue of Frances Hodgkin's exhibition at All Saints, Manchester in November 1926. The Drey's were responsible for introducing Hodgkins to Lucy Wertheim, a wealthy Manchester art collector, who would later become Hodgkin's dealer in her London gallery. Rice was also friendly with another New Zealander, Katherine Mansfield. Her portrait of Mansfield is in the collection of The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. The two stayed together at St. Ives in 1918. | |
